beastiary- Unicorn

the unicorn- from the Latin unicornis, one-horned. a.k.a. monoceros.

The unicorn is a powerful, quadropedal animal with a single horn protruding from between its eyes. It is too swift to be targeted with conventional weaponry, and it is too powerful to be contained or trapped. Its horn contains a magical core with several unique properties. It can purify large quantities of water. Its aura can serve as a false sunlight for flora, keeping unicorn-inhabited forests unseasonably green. The horn itself can pierce the hide of any creature, no matter how thick or armored. The unicorn is a creature of purity and is drawn towards objects or creatures of a similar status.

the beastiary- first entry- Basilisk

basilisk- from the Greek basiliscus, the little king of serpents. a.k.a. cockatrice

Though only reaching 12" in length, the basilisk is the world's most poisonous creature. When threatened, the basilisk excretes a foul-smelling, invisible, airborn toxin causing near-instant death when inhaled or absorbed through the skin. It's only predators are those of the family Mustelidae which feed on venomous snakes and have developed an immunity. The basilisk cannot be handled even after death, but must be incinerated and the ashes confined within lead.
